Steve and I were VERY blessed to have good parents growing up. They weren't perfect, but they loved us in their own way, met all of our needs and more, and raised us to be responsible and level-headed people. I'm not sure about Steve's parents, but I'm pretty sure my parents just winged it. I don't recall seeing my mom reading parenting books or magazines, or going to parenting classes or bible studies. And she has stated on more than one occasion that my brother and I were just really good kids and parenting us was rather worry-free. As I drown in days of discipline-gone-awry with my own 3, I wonder if she has selective amnesia or just got off really easy. Or maybe....she was a mastermind of manipulation....

Growing up, this was the picture that hung above my bed. It is titled, "IN DISGRACE." When I was 2 I looked just like the little girl in this print. What did she do? Talk back? Stay up too late? Not eat her vegetables? Psychological warfare. Nice, Mom.
I wonder where I can find a print of 2 boys and a girl in the clink.
Oh, Jen, you crack me up! Your children are sweet and well behaved- I've seen with my own eyes numerous times. Maybe they save their good days for me;) Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteIf you find a print... can you pick one up for me too! :-) XO LOVE YOU!
